What happens when I’m going out with my friend Christoph, two of his drones, and bring as well my own gadgets? Exactly. We are working on a new YouTube video. And we will come back home with around 51 Gigabytes of movies and pictures.
And precisely this happened two weeks ago. We started at the Chai Wan MTR station and walked to the Cape Collinson Lighthouse. After the first flight with our drones, we walked to Siu Sai Wan and did shoot another scene for our newest movie. Finally, in the last days, I was quite busy editing the film. And here is the result.
How to go there / Starting Point
You can reach the Cape Collinson easily. Be aware that there are two separate locations. One is the “Cape Collinson Lighthouse”, which is not spectacular to see. Without a drone, you basically can’t see anything of the lighthouse. Another area is called “Cape Collinson Battery”. Both places are located on the far northeast corner of Hong Kong Island. As an ordinary hiker or explorer, I would prefer to visit the Battery first. But both places are nearby so that you can visit them both at the same time.
There are many ways to get to Cape Collinson Road, but the easiest way is to hike there from Siu Sai Wan. The way to go there highly depends on where you are living.
- You can take the bus to the Siu Sai Wan bus terminus at the Island Resort.
- You take the train to MTR Chai Wan and walk from there directly to the Cape Collinson Road (or you may also take the Minibus).
We did focus on the lighthouse and as well on Siu Sai Wan. But the blog Drone & DSLR published beautiful pictures of the Battery. Check them out as well!
Duration, Difficulty & Distance
No worries, the hike is easy – I would even just call it a walk. Depending on the route you choose, it will take you around one to two hours only (or around 3-4 km).
